Summer rhythms to help you reconnect with yourself and the season—one moment at a time.
There’s a time of day I’ve come to love—what I call The Magic Hours. It’s early morning, before the world fully wakes up. The sun is just beginning to rise, the sky brushed with soft shades of blue, pink, or orange. Birds begin their quiet morning chorus. A candle flickers nearby, and steam curls up from a freshly made cup of coffee.
The house is still. No emails. No pings. No little feet running around or dogs needing to be let out. You’re wrapped in a blanket, still in your pajamas. And for just a little while, the day belongs entirely to you.
This is the Magic Hour.
What Are Magic Hours?
For me, this sacred window of time shifts depending on the season, my schedule, or even my energy. Sometimes it’s a full hour. Sometimes it’s 10 minutes. But it’s always a consistent place for me to show up—before the chaos that the day can bring begins.
It might include journaling, prayer, meditation, a walk outside (no headphones, just nature), reading, or sitting with a devotional. It might simply be stillness.
So why do I call it magic?
Because so often, something meaningful flows from this time:
A new idea for my business
A nudge to check in on someone
A place to pray intentionally for the people I love
A chance to empty my brain of the endless to-dos
A moment to be grounded before the world needs something from me
These ‘Magic Hours’ have become the foundation of my summer rhythm—a quiet start that helps me live more intentionally, even on the busiest days.
It’s inspiring. It’s centering. It’s magic.
How to Create Your Own Summer Magic
With longer days and fewer routines, summer can feel chaotic or overly scheduled—or so wide open that we lose all sense of rhythm. But it doesn’t have to be either extreme. A few intentional moments built into each day can help you savor the season and stay grounded.
Try weaving these practices into your summer rhythm:
☀️ Step outside first thing: While your coffee brews, step outside. Notice the birds, the breeze, the quiet.
☕ Savor your first sip: Pause and really taste it. Let it be a small ritual.
🌿 Feel the sun on your skin: Take a mid-morning desk break and soak up the warmth—even if it's just a few minutes.
🎉 Take a play day: Block a day off to do something fun—get ice cream with your kids, go to the pool, take a long walk, or visit a local store just because.
💬 Meet a friend for lunch: Bonus points if it’s on your favorite patio.
🧶 Learn something new: Roller skating, embroidery, pickleball, line dancing, a new recipe—anything that brings joy.
🌱 Stand barefoot in the grass: Seriously—try it. It’s grounding and calming.
🌬️ Take a deep breath: More than once a day. Set a phone reminder if you need to.
📵 Be tech-free at meals: Let conversations replace notifications.
📖 Revisit your own version of Magic Hours: Make them yours. Whatever restores you, make space for it.
Don’t Let Summer Slip Away
Summer has a way of moving fast. Between camps, weddings, sports, house projects, work, and just life, it can disappear in the blink of an eye. But when we choose to be thoughtful with our time, to look for moments of peace and joy, we start to experience summer days differently.
Let’s slow down. Let’s savor.Let’s create rhythms that refresh instead of overwhelm.Let’s live this summer with intention—and maybe a little magic.
